Assess yourself! No comments yet

Critique your poker style for improvement

The best place to start to better your poker style is to critically assess your traits and see just which of those traits you need to improve. You must ask yourself what is it that you need to improve. Pose the question, and then try to answer it as good as you can, setting objectives and following a close list to achieve them. This list will most definitely vary depending on experience, your knowledge of poker and your way of being in general. But there is an aspect that needs improvement every time, no matter who you are, when you are playing online. Keep in mind that online you cannot see the others so there are no tells.

Are you a calling station?

The most common and money-losing mistake is playing too many hands. If you want to know if you are playing too many hands just watch your style, your games, and see how many hands you are losing, especially those that you suspected from the begging they are bad, but still went along with them. We all live under the impression that at some point we didn’t have a good hand since forever. This is the time when you play a hand that you would not considered of any value at first, but seems to be just the opposite, filled with opportunity right now. This is the trap boredom leads us to. We will always find reason to keep playing a hand even if we know it is a poor one just to take part in the game.

Freedom to fold

So, if you think this is an aspect of you game that needs improving, your objective is to increase the number of hands that you are giving up in pre-flop. If you are playing aver 40% of the hands you are getting and mostly losing, then something is wrong. We must most definitely play fewer hands. So your objective will be in this situation the attempt to throw at least 70-80% of the hands you are getting. Just do it mechanically. Count the hands and when you realize how many more you have to drop, you will start dropping all those questionable hands automatically. Firstly, stop playing bad cards from early position.

This is a must. If you are not sure of what the term of good hands for every position means, they you can refer to articles or books written by experts for this purpose. Try and let others teach you and stop thinking you are experienced and know everything. Make a list and count every time you are folding. After you finish your games, remember the total number of hands that were in the game. Then calculate your pre-flop folding percent. If you managed to get it up to 80% or at least 70% it means you are disciplined and you have achieved you goal. If not, keep trying till you do.

Remember that this goes only for full-ring tables mostly. Once you managed to adjust your folding style, you already achieved a new level in paying online poker; you are one step up on the stairs to the pros category.

Player position in poker No comments yet

What do you understand by the term position? Position literally means your current situation and the relationship between you and other players in the game of poker while you are on a verge of betting for a specific hand in this game. Position plays a crucial role in competitive and challenging games. No matter what kind of game or sport you are into, position is important- no matter which game you are playing like basketball, football, volleyball, martial arts like judo, kung-fu, karate, etc. Similarly, position is equally important in the game of poker. Position is everything in this game and it is important for a player to change his or her position from time to time depending on the scenario of the game and condition of the game including the other players.

Texas Holdem Poker is one of the competitive games, and here the position has great value and is self-evident. In this type, the players want their rivals or the opponents to make their first decisions. They keep waiting and when they do, they strike back. In Holdem, you do not make decisions just like that but you make decisions depending on nothingness. You have to speculate the nothingness of a person or a player who is playing with you and in this way, you can win the pot. The more they play, they more they win. It is not mandatory that people who have good position can always win. It depends on how you are going to make it. The position plays a simple role in the game of Holdem. People wait for the last because it is the best, especially when two players play a pot. Behind the maniac, always there are two hands and positions- first position and second position. Some players play more hands in order to stick to the game and the late position happens only when a person is an expert player. However, everything depends on the situation and how you deal in the game by grabbing the best position.

The other positions in different types of poker games have different type of value. Therefore, in Stud High-Low it is different and also in Seven Card Stud. Positions generally are variable in nature. There are some hands that should be played when you are not strong enough in the game. However, some positions are hard to play such as middle position and nut hand position. However, everything depends on your skills and you have to make sure what kind of game you are into and then you have to move accordingly and in rhythm by making sure that you use positions at the right time. Winning a game is not everything but executing it in the right manner is everything and also, learning from you experiences should matter other than the obsession of winning. If you notice, then position matters always. However, it is variable in Omaha and Stud rather than in Holdem. You have to exploit your skills and make sure that you can win the show!

Poker is perhaps the most recognized card game around. Its status cuts across cultures and national borders and is played by hundreds of thousands of people around the globe. Variants:
In the game of poker, there are many variants that could affect the outcome of any set game. With all the variants, there are some that are best and the worst that anyone can play with. In a game of poker that anyone enters into, they must be aware of the different rules and the hands that are allowed in the process. Some games may only allow flushes and straights and some will only allow a set to be used in one given time. Such moves make the players ponder their hands even more.

Players who specialize in one hand are at a distinct disadvantage because they can only afford to use one and nothing else. It would become clear for the opponents that the player in question would be easy to read for the person only knows one hand. Here are the most common hands that are played in the game of poker and players should be aware of their combinations and how they affect one’s game.

The Royal Flush:
The Royal Flush is the best hand that a player can possibly have for it has the highest ranking, not score, in the game. It is seen as the hand that can defeat all other hands. It is usually seen in most TV shows and movies. The royal flush consists of all the family cards - the King, Queen, Ace, Jack and the 10. All must have the same suit.

The Straight Flush:
The Straight Flush is the hand that ranks next to the royal flush. The flush consists of cards that have a continuous set of numbers and all have the same suit. This hand is lower than the royal flush which deals with the cards of 7 to 10 plus the jack.

The Four of a Kind:
The four of a kind is a hand wherein four cards have the same numerical value on the face of the card regardless of the suit. The higher the number on four cards, the higher the value is.

The Full House:
The full house occurs when out of the five cards there are three cards of one number and the remaining to be of another number. Example: 5,5,5, 2,2. In this case the higher value of the three cards will win over s similar hand that has lower numbers.

These are the top four hand rankings and players are advised to keep a watchful eye out for them and are encouraged to build the strong hands whenever the opportunity arises.

Bet Size is Important No comments yet

You must always avoid making incorrectly sized bets at the wrong time. Poker requires precision. By making the correct bets, you can increase your advantage over your opponents. So it’s really important not to be so random with your bets.

One thing to keep in mind is to bet as small as possible in order to get the job done. That doesn’t mean that you must be a fish and minimum bet every hand. What it means is to save money while trying to accomplish your goal. If your opponent has a strong hand then you won’t lose much.
